We've all heard the phrase, don't post and ghost 👻
If we're being honest, we've all done it
When it happens, it happens... BUT...
Consistently ignoring your followers is going to result in them ignoring YOU.
Fewer likes, comments and shares means you're not going to get as much reach on your content...
Which means fewer new followers...
And less sales 😵
I'm not saying you need to spend all your time on Instagram - I most certainly don't, but you can build a genuine community of people who love your content and drive your engagement metrics through the roof.
And you can do it in as little as 10 minutes a day.
The most common excuse I get from business owners when I ask why they aren't engaging with their audience is ⬇️
"I just don't know what to do"
They reply to comments and answer messages in their DMs but once that's done, they draw a blank on what else they can do to build their community and increase their engagement rate.
Is that you too?
Social media is more fun when people connect with you so I'm sharing one of the secrets from the Organic Engagement Playbook so you can start building your community today.
Set a timer on your phone for 10 minutes and do the following:
Connect with 5-10 new accounts of people who are your ideal clients. To find them, look up accounts you enjoy following, think:
📖 authors, speakers, or public figures
☕️ coffee shops or restaurants you love
🎸 activities you like to do or hobbies you have
Connecting with new people is easier when you have something in common to talk about.
1️⃣ Once you pick an account, a local coffee shop let's say, you're going to pick one of their recent posts and leave a genuine comment.
If you can't think of any accounts, you can select a post from your discovery page and use it for this exercise. The key is not to spend more time choosing a post than you do completing steps 2 & 3.
2️⃣ Read through the other comments on the the post and reply to 5-10 of them of them. The goal is to create an opportunity to start a conversation with these potential ideal clients.
3️⃣ For the 5-10 comments you replied to, send those people a DM and start a conversation. For example:
"Hey (name), I saw you love the blueberry frappicino from the coffee shop. Have you tried it with the lemon poppyseed scones? It's my go to combination to start my work day, so good!"
Connecting with new people helps grow your following and builds awareness about your business. It can also lead to potential new customers or possibly your new BFF.
To be truly effective, the messages need to be genuine and should not in any way include a sales pitch.
As a bonus activity, try liking or comment on a few of their posts if they have a public profile, you can even follow them if you'd like, to really make the interaction genuine.
I recommend completing this activity at least once a month.
