Hi, I'm Brittany, a mom, mystery buff, bookworm, and DIY home decor enthusiast. I love nothing more than finding sustainable strategies to help your business grow into what you've dreamed of. If you're looking for support with your social media, email marketing to podcast, click here to learn how I can help.

Table Of Contents

Month Long Ideas

  • Family Fun Month - create a content series for the month sharing different activities you can do with your family, destinations you should visit on summer break, recipes to try, matching family outfits or accessories etc. The ideas are endless! Think about your product or services relates to families and see what you can do to play up that angle. For me, I could create a series of videos showing the different activities I'm able to enjoy with my family in August because my social media and email marketing efforts support my business so I don't have to be on my phone all the time

  • Black Business Month (US) - shine a light on yourself or other black-owned businesses. This is a great ideas for your stories so you can tag the businesses to show your support.

  • Happiness Happens Month - this is another great focus for your stories in August. Regularly create stories that share different small things that make you like trips to the park with your kids (look at that, we tied it back to Family Fun month too) or a trip to the nail salon. Make sue you use engagement stickers and question boxes to start conversations with your audience. This story series will support the 'know, like, trust' goal of social media and connect you with your followers

  • National Sandwich Month - if you're a food based business or restaurant you just hit content heaven! You can share (guilt free) your different sandwich/menu items, spice it up a bit more by adding an additional 'know, like and trust' factor by inviting your staff to participate and select a few staff members to share their favourite sandwich OR share which sandwich each staff member would be. Here's an example of what I mean.

Week Long Events

  • Simplify Your Life Week (August 5 - 11) - for a sales angle, talk about how your product or service will simplify your followers life. Focus on the transformation they will have. Example: go from being attached to your phone everyday to gaining new followers while you play with your kids after attending Grow Your Following Faster. Bonus points if you build in your testimonials that demonstrate the transformation too.

  • Bargain Hunting Week (August 12 - 18) - I love a good trip to the thrift store, you never know what treasure you'll find for a steal! Share your knowledge and personal experience with your audience by featuring a few different products, services, courses etc. that you've used and thought were a hidden gem because of the value they brought you. You build credibility, specially as a B2B when you share things that helped you in your business. You can totally offer a suprise 'bargain' or discount for any of your products and services as well

Ideas for (Almost) Every Day of the Month

  • August 1: National Girlfriends Day - celebrate by shouting out one of your girlfriends in your stories who keep you grounded in your business, they don't even have to be a business owner! This is supporting the know, like and trust factor.

  • August 2: Colouring Book Day - I don't know about you but I find colouring a great way to de-stress and relax. Use Canva or other online apps to create a colouring page related to your business that you can share a link to in your stories. You can even turn it into a colouring content by inviting your followers to share a picture once it's coloured and tag you. Offer a small prize for the winner, this is a great way to build an engaged community and also increase your reach by 'borrowing' your followers audience.

  • August 5: Work Like A Dog Day - I know what you're thinking, why would we want to celebrate this? And we don't, I'm a huge advocate of balance but I also support authenticity in my business and feel it's important to be transparent about what running a business actually looks like (surprise, it's not all $20K months and endless vacations), you can create a post sharing what it actually looks like to run your business, think 'day in the life' or 'instagram vs. reality'.

  • August 7: Lighthouse Day - a lighthouse is a beacon of safety, security and direction. Use it as an analogy for your business, how do you bring safety, security to your cusotmers or clients? How can you guide them from __ (where they are currently) to __ (their desired state).

  • August 9: National Book Lovers Day - share a personal read that has impacted you. It can be business related or more personal, like your favourite beach read. I love books, especially books that help me grow my business. Check out this blog post for my top 5 reads your first year in business. 👇🏻

  • August 10: National Lazy Day - if you could be lazy and outsource or stop doing one thing in your business what would it be and why? Create a post talking about it or do a surprise Instagram live talking about this. Your followers will appreciate your realness and a lot of them will likely relate to what you're saying.

  • August 15: Relaxation Day - when you're not running your business how do you relax and unwind? Share a behind the scenes of your relaxing at home, this would be a great reel using b-roll with a trending audio clip. You don't even have to add text on screen if you don't want to.

  • August 16: National Tell A Joke Day - I think this one is easy enough for you ro figure out but go into your stories and create a video of you telling a joke or create a text based story with a knock-knock joke, add a question box for people to guess the answer. Share the answer on the second story so people have to click through to see how it ends. This adds extra engagement and story views which is great for your overall reach!

  • August 17: Nonprofit Day - does your business donate a portion of your profits to a charity or nonprofit? Feature the charity or nonprofit that you support and share the story of why you set up this corporate giving program for your business. Most business do this because they have a personal connection to the organization but rarely share their 'why' for it.

  • August 20: National Radio Day - hit the airwaves by sharing your own podcast episode (need help setting up or managing your podcast? Click here to learn more) or share a few podcasts or episodes you've listened to lately that you found really helpful or fun.

  • August 22: Be an Angel Day - any day all about spreading kindness I'm here for! Share some kind word for your follower, or some kind words about fellow business owners in your stories. You can even 'be an angel' and share some of your best free resources with your audience to grow your email list

  • August 26: National Women's Equality Day - share a post or reel about one of your struggles running a business as a woman/female or share a tips or piece of advice for other women in business you wish you had heard sooner

  • August 27: Just Because Day - share something totally unrelated to your business 'just because' to build more know, like and trust with your audience. You can do this as a post or a story

  • August 28: National Thoughtful Day - emulate thread and share something you think about in life or business and ask your followers to share their thoughts or opinions on the topic (ex. where did the expression 'I haven't the foggiest' come from?). This is a create conversation starter for building community

  • August 30: National Beach Day - have some fun and visit the beach! Show how your business creates more freedom and flexibility for you and how it can for your followers to if they do __ with you (talk about one of your services or products)

  • August 31: National Matchmaker Day - play matchmaker and share how two of your products or services go hand in hand to create the 'perfect match' to get __ result for your followers

Remember to only use the ideas that relate the best to your business and try to limit the number of posts you're creating for these National holidays to a few. they should be a fun way to shake up your content mix but shouldn't be the foundation of your strategy!
